THE BIG PICTURE
I am a truthseeker and a lover of justice; a fan of a few well-chosen words over many unwisely spoken. My passion is to eliminate barriers of any form (physical, financial, psychological) that perpetuate myths of inequality and inferiority. I am a graduate of Yale University and Stanford Law School and a northern California native.
MY BACKGROUND
When I went to law school, I had one goal: to learn high finance techniques that corporations and wealthy Americans use every day that I could use to help bring economic opportunity to those of us in the middle; those of us who, today, find ourselves squeezed in a veritable no-man’s land, ignored by our elected representatives, somewhere in the middle of the ever widening gap between the ultra-rich and the poor.
During the first part of my career, I fulfilled the first part of this mission. As a public finance attorney for 18 years, I assisted governmental and nonprofit issuers close billions of dollars in municipal bond transactions in support of crucial infrastructure and affordable housing projects. From 2009-2018, I have operated as a solo practitioner from my home base of Berkeley, California. Prior to that, from 2001 to 2009, I was an associate attorney in the Public Finance Department of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP in San Francisco, California.
I launched BAE Law, an estate planning law firm, with my partner, Peter Fredman to bring the skills I developed practicing high finance to more directly help people like you; people that may want to build on a legacy, new or established, of wealth and high achievement but may feel stymied by a family history characterized by things like a lack of resources, discord or ineffective planning.
MY MOTIVATION
As the cost of living in the bay area continues to rise and all of us continue to see friends and loved ones being forced to leave at an alarming pace, I feel compelled to take a more active role in addressing the changes in a positive way. I want to work with you so that, if you desire to, you can continue to have a place here in the Bay Area, for many years to come, even as you age and other inevitable societal changes take place. I want to help you, my neighbors, family and friends by supporting you to put measures in place to help you preserve what you’ve spent your whole life building. I want to help you to take a stand and, with the right plan, fight against these seemingly immovable forces.
