Early in his career, Jason did estate planning work for an elderly client that helped restore the client’s relationship with his estranged daughter and later protected the client’s estate from attack by distant relatives when he passed away. From that experience, Jason realized the genuine value and good that come both from proper estate planning and from having a relationship where the client knows his or her attorney cares about them and really does protect their interests. Jason is dedicated to building deep and lasting relationships of trust with people so that they can confidently protect and transfer their life’s legacy to others.
Jason grew up in Wyoming and northern Utah, the oldest of six children. At age 8, he began working with his dad, a general contractor, and his grandpa, a farmer, where he gained a deep appreciation for those who work hard and the effort it takes to build and keep an estate. As a member of 4-H, he enjoyed raising sheep to show at county and state fairs and later in high school trained reining horses. When he turned 19, Jason served two years in Uruguay, South America as a full-time volunteer for his church and learned to love the people there. Service to others will always be important to him. After returning home, Jason graduated from Utah State University with honors, where he earned bachelors’ degrees in Business and Liberal Arts & Sciences, with a minor in Spanish.
Jason received his law degree from Arizona State University, where he was a Pedrick Scholar. He was also a winner of the Jenckes Closing Argument Competition and a contributing author to Couch on Insurance 3d ed. During law school, Jason served as a judicial extern to Judge Ted Stewart of the United States District Court, District of Utah. Upon graduation in 2006, Jason moved to southern Utah and has been practicing law here ever since; first in a general civil practice, then as general counsel for a national SaaS (software as a service) company, and later as general counsel for a multi-million dollar charitable trust. Jason founded Dixon Law to focus exclusively on estate planning and administration for individuals, families, and businesses. He is a member of the Utah State Bar and its Estate Planning Section, the Southern Utah Bar Association, the State Bar of Arizona, and the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys.
Jason’s best life decision was marrying his wife, Jennifer, from Ringgold, Georgia. They are the parents of two sons and a daughter and enjoy living in St. George, Utah where they are close to rural areas and can explore the great outdoors. As a family, they enjoy camping, swimming, and hiking, but dad occasionally makes them endure scenic drives and stops at historical sites.
